Dance Supreme Ireland Celebrates 14 Years As The Nations Number 1 Dance Competition promotion!

With a background of almost 30 long years in dance Alan Healy started up his promotion following the demise of the big event of its day, 'BOPARAMA'. An event organised by one of the Youth services in Dublin with which he was heavily involved as a competitor, a DJ and adjudicator.

His dance career began just like many others of the time following the biggest movie of the 70's, Saturday Night Fever, Alan was soon competing in many local competitions at his dance school in Bricklayers Hall on Dublin's Southside. His teacher at the time was non-other than Bridie Healy (no relation), a very successful tutor well respected on the Ballroom and Latin circuits.

From 1985 Alan was choreographer to many successful stage shows for a number of youth groups around Dublin. He was also show designer and principal teacher to a marching band in Tallaght who went on to win a Gold Medal at the World Championships in Kerkrade, Holland in 1991.

Today Alan is a fully qualified dancer teacher with the UKA (United Kingdom Alliance) and a Professional member of the ADFP (Association of Dance and Freestyle Professionals).

In 1992 Dance Supreme was launched as an independent organisation supported by groups from all over Dublin. Soon after, more schools and clubs start cropping up from all over the country including Northern Ireland and today there are more Freestyle Disco and Hip Hop dance schools than there were at the height of the Disco boom of the 70's.

The first 'one-day' events were soon followed by the first ever weekend dance festival in Ireland. The 'National Championships', got its first outing in early 1993 in Bundoran, Co Donegal.

Nowadays, Bundoran is recognised as the 'Number 1' event on the Irish Freestyle/Hip Hop Dance circuit. As part of the National Championships, the Annual Celebration, that is 'Dancer Of The Year', is one of many highlights of this fantastic weekend along with some superb demonstrations and workshops which caters for all.

Since its beginning in 1998, the 'DOTY' as we fondly know it, has attracted the best dancers from Ireland and the UK to compete for this coveted award and today, they still come!

Dance Supreme prides itself on its attention to detail and more importantly attention to its supporters without whom there would be no competition as 'unique' as a Dance Supreme competition. 'Fun' is always the order of the day!

As proof of our commitment to the future of Freestyle Disco and Hip Hop here in Ireland, Dance Supreme is actively engaged in the development of the various competitive styles.

So, if you want to become part of the 'Dance Supreme Family' why not attend one of our many events for yourself?

We guarantee you will not be disappointed!
