'DANCER OF THE YEAR 2006'

A fantastic day of Hip Hop was enjoyed by the large crowd for Dance Supreme's first Hip Hop DOTY. Groups from Dublin and Belfast competed in Solos, Couples and Team events. The first event got underway at 10.30am with the teams which was soon followed by the Solos, couples then the big event itself, Hip Hop Dancer Of The Year 2006!
24 dancers made it through to the these final stages of the competition which began earlier in the year when dancers qualified by coming first place in previous competitions. Today was the last chance for people to qualify and boy did they dance.
Just before the grand final the expected television crew for TG4 arrived and setup to get some super footage of our young people doing what they do best.....dance!
Some of the mammies got into the act when they took to the floor to display their 'talents'. In the end the judges just could not decide on the mammies and instead called it a draw!!! They did make onto the telly though...watch out for them!!
Anyway the real business was a great nail biter when the 24 DOTY qualifiers were whittled down to just 10 performers, each gave us a delightful 30second solo display from which our 7 adjudicators had to pick just '1' winner.
In the end the judges choice was 'Natalie McParland' from 'Xplosiv' in Belfast. Natalie has been a consistent winner in 2006 and was a very deserving first 'Hip Hop Dancer Of The Year'.
Many people have ask Dance Supreme about turning this event into a weekend festival and this could be a real possibility in 2007. Watch this space.
